I Choose Not to Forgive

They all circle around me

Like the previous predators

Who damaged my being.

They want me to forgive,

They quote Bible verses

About forgiveness to me.

Forgiveness must come

From my own inner desire

And readiness to do so.

I won’t be guilt tripped

By people who want to

Dismiss my painful trauma.

They are as bad as the ones

Who hurt me; for they wish

I sweep it all under the rug.

I won’t do it, I refuse to.

I have a right to choose

Not to forgive bad actions.

I have a right to reclaim

My humanity and dignity

By not bowing to others.

I refuse to be pushed

To forgive hurt and evil

When I don’t want to.

I choose to peacefully

Refuse to forgive some

Ills done to and against me.

Respect my decision,

By not guilt tripping me.

Leave and let me be.
