She skulks over to next door in night’s darkness
Surprisingly calm and reserved with a mission
A brown and white calico kitten is trapped,
Needing a release from its cold captivity,
from uncaring, abusive owners that don’t
Properly care for the two-week-old angel.
The human snatches the kitten up swiftly.
In response, it starving and injured, yawns,
as both trot back into a warm, safe haven.
The human knew she illegally trespassed,
But she deemed it necessary to save a life,
A life, an animal’s life she holds with great
Admiration even though others may disagree.
The human hero isn’t an animal rights activist
She is respectful to all living beings at all times.
