Today is Teacher’s Day here in China. I am going to sit and reflect on my teaching career this evening.
I have been an ESL teacher for almost 11 years now. This journey has been a fascinating and astonishing one. I never thought I could do it and never knew if my personality could fit doing this work.
I feel blessed to be a teacher and have tried my best to impart knowledge of all sorts to my students. I have sung kiddie songs, taught kids how to read, write, the ABCs, how to listen well, how to speak, etc.
I’ve bonded with a lot of my students and created meaningful and hopefully lasting impressions in their minds and hearts. Teaching is not easy work, it is exhausting, tiresome, takes up so much energy and isn’t a smooth ride at all.
If we can make sure we try our best, we do best by our students, then we can have a peaceful heart and mind about teaching.
This is what I am reflecting on this evening.
