Tracing and finding familial roots
can be as meticulous
as unbraiding cornrows.
Careful attention is needed
along with guided direction
to unravel each piece
of information like hair.
Each name or birthday
serves as the group
of hair in one selection
that’s slowly taken apart
until the root is reached.
One birthplace or surname
along with various bloodlines
represent a head of hair
waiting to be parted
brushed thru and moisturized
to be shaped and molded
into a meaningful style
known as familial heritage.
